PSL Final : Tradition@RAC beat Pontefract

Tradition @ RAC are the PSL Champions!

A new PSL champion was guaranteed when Team Pontefract and Tradition@RAC met at St George’s Hill this afternoon.

It was a repeat of last year’s semi-final, which saw RAC edge home before losing out to St Georges in the final.  For Pontefract this was a first final, for RAC a second chance to claim the title and, with Pontefract missing some of their top players, they started strong favourites.

It was Pontefract who took the lead though as Laura Massaro beat Alison Waters in a tough three games.

That was hard,” admitted the recently retired Massaro. “I’m pleased to put the team ahead, but I feel that squash is only going to get harder now!”

Daryl Selby put RAC level as he beat Ramit Tandon in straight games.

“That was an important match,” he said, “the number two match is normally at the end and I’d never played Ramit. We couldn’t afford to go two-nil down so I’m happy I played well to win that.”

Paul Coll, who was missing from last year’s final, was impressive as he beat Saurav Ghosal in two games, and Ben Coleman sealed the title for RAC as he beat Sam Todd, also in two games.

RAC manager Lee Davies was delighted :

“I feel fantastic for the team, for the RAC club, for our sponsor Tradition ! It’s a long hard slog getting this far, we had to take last year on the chin but its been a real team effort all season and I’m proud of every one of them!”
