Perry returns to top five in PSA Women’s World Rankings
England’s Sarah-Jane Perry has returned to the top five of the PSA Women’s World Rankings for the first time since October 2020.
Perry has overtaken France’s Camille Serme, who saw her ranking points for her J.P. Morgan Tournament of Champions win in January, 2020 expire at the end of November. Serme is currently recovering from a calf injury sustained during September’s CIB Egyptian Open and finds herself outside of the world’s top five for the first time since May, 2018.
Egypt’s Nour El Sherbini has stayed at World #1 for the 14th month in succession and she leads the way ahead of Nouran Gohar (#2), Amanda Sobhy (#3) and Hania El Hammamy (#4), who make up the rest of the top five.
Meanwhile, Joelle King, Salma Hany, Nour El Tayeb and Rowan Elaraby hold onto their positions in the top 10.
Olivia Clyne, Joshna Chinappa and Olivia Fiechter retain their spots too, while Belgium’s Nele Gilis moves up to #14, swapping places with Egypt’s Nadine Shahin.
Tesni Evans and Hollie Naughton stay at #16 and #17 while Danielle Letourneau and Emily Whitlock switch places, with the former rising to a career-high ranking of #18. Elsewhere, France’s Melissa Alves has broken into the top 20 for the first time in her career after she reached the final of the Czech Open last month.
Malaysia’s Min Jie Teh is the biggest mover on the women’s tour. The 25-year-old has moved up 139 places to #307 after reaching the final of the Isaac Bloch Open on the WSF & PSA Satellite Tour as well as the final of the Life Time Westchester Satellite event last month. Meanwhile, Singapore’s Au Yeong Wai Yhann has risen 91 spots to #170 after winning the Singapore National Championships.
Coll becomes first male Kiwi since 1987 to reach world’s top two
New Zealand’s Paul Coll has become the first male Kiwi since Ross Norman in August 1987 to reach the top two of the PSA Men’s World Rankings.
Coll, 29, has been one of the form players of the 2021-22 season so far and captured his second title of the year when he defeated World #1 Ali Farag to win the Canary Wharf Classic title in November.
That win has seen Coll – who became the only male Kiwi ever to win the prestigious Allam British Open back in August – leapfrog former #1 Mohamed ElShorbagy, who falls outside of the world’s top two for the first time since November 2017.
Farag stays at #1, while Egypt’s Tarek Momen and Peru’s Diego Elias complete the top five. Mostafa Asal remains at #6, with Marwan ElShorbagy and Welshman Joel Makin rising a place to #7 and #8 which is a career-high ranking for Makin. Fares Dessouky drops two spots to #9 as a result, while Karim Abdel Gawad rounds off the top 10.
A runner-up finish at the Malaysian Open has seen Miguel Rodriguez rise a place to #11 and he overtakes Mazen Hesham, who drops to #12. Mohamed Abouelghar rises a place to #13, switching places with Gregoire Marche, while Malaysian Open victor Saurav Ghosal stays at #15.
Youssef Ibrahim, Youssef Soliman,and Eain Yow Ng, all retain their spots, while Frenchman Baptiste Masotti moves up to a career-high ranking of #19. That sees Germany’s Raphael Kandra fall a place as he completes the top 20.
In terms of the biggest mover, Argentina’s Miguel Pujol has risen 333 places to #455 after he won the Head Open in Brazil to mark his PSA Tour debut.
