Day FOUR : Finals

Austria’s men’s and women’s teams both claimed promotion to Division II by reaching the finals, but both lost out as Poland’s men won on countback and the Russian women took top spot.

Day THREE – Austria with a double promotion to Division 2

At the end of the day Austria was the happiest team with the promotion of both teams to Division 2.

In the Men’s draw, Austria defeated Norway 3-1 with the highlight on the match played between Jacob Dirnberger (Áustria) and Adrian Ostbye (Norway) with the former winning 3-2 with a very close results (9-11, 9-11, 12/10, 15-13, 12-10).

Poland is also promoted after defeated Ukraine 2-1.
On the Women’s draw the dream of promotion from the home team and also surprise of the Championship, Portugal ended after losing to Austria 2-0.
Norway was the saddest team after failing to be promoted in any of the draws.
Russia is promoted to Division 2 after winning 2-0.

Day TWO:

On the second day of competition everyone watched excellent matches with team trying to reach the quarter finals.

Norway caused a major upset on the Men’s draw defeating Russia (4-0) and winning their group. Austria, Poland and Ukraine were the winners of the other groups.

One of the matches of the day was Slovenia vs Estonia with a draw (2-2) as the final result. However Slovenia advances to the quarter finals on games countback.

Martin Mosnik was the Slovenian most valuable player winning his matches against Austria and Estonia both 3-2. Malta, Luxemburg and Russia are the other teams qualifying.

On the Women’s draw Latvia finished at top of the group defeating Estonia in one of the most exciting matches. Liene Rieba (Latvia) defeated Anna Reinsoo (Estonia) 3-2 with 12/10 in the last game after saved a match point.

In the other groups the top teams easily qualified for the last eight positions.

Day ONE:

First day at ETCD3 and no surprises at the Men’s Draw. Top ranked teams, Austria, Poland, Ukraine and Russia easily won their first two rounds and are at the top of the table.

On the second day of the tournament the first two ranked teams from each Group will play each other so we could expect close matches to define the Quarter Finals draw.

The home country Portugal was the surprise on the Women’s draw. Starting as the 10th ranked team they defeated Slovenia (7th seeded) on a really very close match. Catarina Nunes gave the first point to Portugal defeating Sara Rojnik (3-0) but Pika Rupar equalize the match winning her match against Mariana Martins (3-1).

The decisive match started with a strong 2-0 lead by Nina Kustec and it looked impossible for Portugal to recover. However Alexandra Santos managed to draw the match (2-2) with a huge support from the home crowd.

On the last game Kustec was leading 9-7 but Santos fought back and won 9-11.

If Russia beats Slovenia ten Portugal could play the quarter finals after a 20 year absence from ETC.
