Euro Teams 2020 heads for Eindhoven

Squash Bond Nederland, Squash Time Eindhoven and DPD Nederland join forces for EuroTeams

The largest squash tournament in Europe, the European Team Championships – Divisions One and Two – will be heading to the Netherlands in 2020.

Europe’s best players will compete against each other in the week from 29th April to 2nd May. The organization of the championship is in the hands of Squash Bond Nederland, Squash Time Eindhoven and parcel service DPD, which is the main sponsor of the sport in the Netherlands.

Back to the Netherlands

It has been seven years sin the Netherlands has hosted a European Squash Championship, but that will change in 2020. More than 200 participants from 20 different countries will travel to Eindhoven in the last week of April. Both the men’s teams and the women’s teams play for the European title this week. The entire European top, including France, England, Germany and Belgium, will participate with their strongest lineups.

The matches will provide high-level squash within the first and second division. Among the men, Simon Rosner, Gregoire Marche and James Willstrop come into action for their countries. With the ladies we can count on Nele Gilis, Camille Serme and the Dutch top player Milou van der Heijden. The Dutch men hope to promote this European Championship to the highest class.

Unique location

Last year the European Championship took place in Birmingham, United Kingdom. For the European Squash 2020 Championship, the organization has opted for an iconic location in Eindhoven: The Klokgebouw. Thanks to the ASB Glass Court, which is being built especially for the championship in Het Klokgebouw, Europe’s top players will perform in a unique environment. The grandstand around the glass squash court offers space for hundreds of spectators, from where they can admire their favorites. The Klokgebouw, located on the dynamic and surprising Strijp-S, is easily accessible from all over Europe.

Event for young and old

Sven Wouters, Squash Bond Netherlands Director said:

“By bringing the European Squash Championship to the Netherlands in 2020, we hope to interest even more people in the sport. Everyone is welcome, young, old, big squash fan or just interested and curious about the sport. Bringing together the European top in team competitions creates a fantastic dynamic, so that the energy, atmosphere and experience will be greater than ever. We are very happy that we can realize this event with the help of our sponsor DPD.”

Eric Dietz, CEO DPD Netherlands added:

“As a big squash enthusiast, I am proud that we can once again bring an important squash event to the Netherlands and contribute as DPD to the organization of the European championship. The dynamic nature of squash fits well with DPD. Even with us, no two days are the same, but through effective cooperation we deliver packages quickly and efficiently to the recipient. Of course I hope to see this speed, effectiveness and teamwork during the competitions. ”
