European Junior Open : Finals

India and England double up in Cologne

Formerly the Pioneer Junior Cup, the rebranded European Junior Open took place in Cologne, Germany, from 4th to 8th July.

There were a host of upsets with the Boys U19 the only category which saw the top seeds contest the final.

India claimed two titles as Anahat Singh and Yuvna Gupta – both unseeded – claimed the G13 and G15 titles, while England also captured two Girls titles as Asia Harris and Alice Green – both 5/8 seeds – came through five game G17 and G19 finals.

The Boys titles were shared across four nations as South Africa’s Juhann Groenwald beat the top seed in the B13 final, Netherland’s Rowan Damming justified his B15 top seeding as did Swiss Miguel Mathis in the B17.

After two mammoth B19 semi-finals it was top seeded Czech Viktor Byrtus who eased past Yannik Wilhelmi in the final match of the tournament.
