Grayson claims his biggest title in Houston

New Zealand’s Campbell Grayson claimed the 14th and biggest title of his career when he lifted the 2019 Life Time Northwestern Mutual Houston Open,  beating #4 seed Alan Clyne from Scotland in a gruelling 80 minute final.

Grayson took the first 11-5 and looked very focused and sharp. In the second Clyne looked the fresher of the players but could not close out the  game despite leading 7-4 and 8-6 before Grayson took the game 11-9.

The third game could have not been closer and every point was battled out where Clyne managed to win 11-9.

The fourth game looked like Clyne was a lot fresher and in control, but made a few errors, which cost him the match and Campbell hung in deep to win 11-7 to claim his second Houston Open.

“I’d been in the semis and finals of a few tournaments this big, but hadn’t won one. I’m stoked to win it, Alan is always tough and also to have beaten Ryan as well. I used good tactics to win that one.

“Winning this title has been great to start the season along with earlier in the year taking out the Irish Open and I did well at the British Open too, although I was a bit angry at the way I played in the Nationals final against Paul Coll and thought I could have offered more in that match.”
