Jamie visits the RAC…

Was hugely privileged to be invited down to the Iconic Royal Automobile Club on Pall Mall in Central London yesterday by Mark Jackson who gave me a detailed guided tour not just around the Club but the immediate area where the club is situated..

At one time, there were approx 30 Squash courts in that locality residing inside various incredible-looking buildings that were mainly private clubs…the number is down to around 10 these days but still fascinating to think that this small area would have seen all the great players past and present visit at some stage…

I suspected the RAC club would be something special having seen the odd picture in various squash books but nothing really prepares you for the feeling of history and opulence that hits you as you enter the grand entrance…totally blown away..

This is the club where the SRA first met and many many other historic events and tournaments have taken place over the years here…

Quite fittingly the last Premier league match scores were still on the board….Paul Coll v Mohamed Elshorbagy… it was meant to be…

These days it has four lovely courts and 62 leagues! (which is a world record I believe).

Can’t thank you enough Mark…was very special and particularly hearing all the history first hand from your good self… I will return the favour when you are up here in Manchester and give you a guided tour round my club Tame Valley…

I will show you where the wasp nests were… where the grid got blocked and the courts were flooded….where we replaced the plaster on court 3 after Wright Philips hacked it off in a desperate bid to get a ball back…the list is endless…I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.
