Qamar Zaman: “Personally speaking’… Part 3

The last instalment of Qamar’s wonderful piece in August 1975 edition of ‘Squash Player Magazine’…

‘When I come to England at beginning of last season players and pressmen have same opinion…Zaman they say he have many fine strokes.. make most entertaining game but he is not good enough ..he does not have discipline’.. Too many times he put ball in tin ..lose point by trying dodgy shot at silly time…

What you think I do?

Silly I think to run 20 miles to lift heavy weights make wrists tired with 100 Press-ups.. Instead I play lone squash…go on court.. hit ball until dodgy shot work..

I think back on days when many strokes go in tin and I am happy. Man not do anything without making mistakes first.

It disappoints me sometimes.. people try one drop shot.. two drop shots.. then they give up because one go in tin and other one miss nick.. Instead they go back to simple shots.. opponent now looks very happy.. always he knows where ball is going…

Back in dressing room first player complain that ball was not right for drop shot ..that court was too warm in middle of summer… Real fault is with man.. he not try long enough.. never give himself chance to enjoy Squash…perhaps he is afraid of losing…
