Yes, I remember it well : Jamie Maddox

Jamie Maddox created a simple facebook page a few years ago, in 2010, where he intended to exchange a few memories/thoughts with friends of his. But from 2017 the page grew in popularity, and has since become a phenomena, with nearly 16,000 readers and lots of daily posts.

If you don’t know Squash Stories, have a look…

What is his all-time favourite match, and his best ever personal squash memory? Read on…

Best match watched:
1987, Worlds – Neil Harvey’s win over Ross Norman

Quarters
Neil Harvey 3-2 Ross Norman          2-9, 10-9, 4-9, 9-5, 9-7

Neil was the big underdog in this World Open quarter final but as the match progressed the crowd started to sense Harvey could do the impossible and actually defeat Norman….

[Just to remind you that the previous year, Ross had broken Jahangir Khan’s 555 match unbeaten streak… Fram]

When he won the final point the crowd went berserk like a football crowd would if their team had scored a winner in extra time in a cup final…..fabulous…

Best Squash Memory

My own personal favourite memory has to be when I won the club Championship at my first club, the famous Carriages in Manchester after only playing Squash for just over two years.

I battled through to the final taking out a few tough awkward and experienced players on the way and found myself against the golden boy of the club… a player who had all the shots and the image to go with it.

I was going to be fodder for this guy apparently or so I had heard a few members had said which was all the motivation I needed to carry out my very basic but effective gameplan.

So to the match…

I wasn’t too nervous as I just wanted to get stuck in in front of a packed gallery and ref and prove everybody apart from Wingard my best mate wrong. I had no short game at that point and so my tactic was to hit everything up high to his backhand knowing it was weaker than the other side but more importantly he would make errors trying to go for crosscourt nicks if I fed him there.

It worked to perfection and I won the match 3-0… I can’t explain how happy I was as I went into one of the back corridors on my own after coming off court having achieved what they all thought was impossible…
