Team Laura v Team Nick: Massaro’s team build an early lead

Team Laura have stormed into an early lead in the first week of Team Laura vs Team Nick – the England Squash contest supported by SquashLevels.

The month-long competition sees squash players around the world pick a side – former world no.1 Laura Massaro or three-time world champion Nick Matthew – and record match results on squashlevels.com in the ultimate head-to-head battle.

195 matches were played during the opening week with Team Laura winning 111 matches to Team Nick’s 84.

Massaro’s side won 56% of the games played – leading 336-272 overall – despite a narrow margin of 51% of the points. With so many close-fought encounters already played, Team Nick just need to find that killer blow to get themselves back in the competition.

Representing Team Nick, 2019 English Junior champion Saran Nghiem added one victory and one defeat to the Wolfpack’s total.

Lincolnshire top county leaderboard

After racing to the top of the leaderboard on day one, Warwickshire have been overtaken by Lincolnshire, Lancashire and Kent. Just two matches separate the top four counties with Massaro’s home county Lancashire hot on the heels of leaders Lincolnshire.

Surrey, Hertfordshire, Essex, Hampshire, Middlesex and Northamptonshire all finished inside the top 10 but Nick Matthew’s Yorkshire are yet to make their debut.

Poult Wood claim best club

In the club standings, Poult Wood Squash and Racquetball Club occupy pole position after playing 24 matches.

The Kent-based club sit six places ahead of Dean Sports and Leisure (Lincolnshire) in second place whilst Surrey’s David Lloyd Purley lie third with 10 matches played. Hertfordshire (Berkhamsted Rackets and Stortford) and Lancashire (Wigan and Northern) are the only counties with two clubs inside the top 10.

Team Laura vs Team Nick continues until November 9th when the team with the most victories will be crowned champions. Players of any age or ability can join a team.
