It was a goodday for the women’s top seeds at the El Shams Club in Cairo as the finalists were decided.

Top seed Jana Shihah duly made it through to the final, and will mee second seed Sana Ibrahim who won in four tough games against Nour Aboulmakarim.

The men’s top seed Omar Elkattan was beaten in four games by fourth seed Khaled Labib, while world junior runner-up Moustafa El Sirty ended the run of wildcard Mohamed Nasser to reach the final.

Plenty of upsets in round two, but the top two seeds in each draw are through to the quarter-finals.

A number of minor upsets as six of the men’s and three of the women’s 9/16 seeds were beaten, with the winners going through to meet the seeded players in round two, Mexico’s Carlos Vargas being the only non-Egyptian winner of the day and the only non-Egyptian left in either draw!
