Jana and Tarek take the last event of the year

A tournament with plenty of upsets finished in Cairo with victory for women’s top seed Jana Shiha over Hana Moataz, a third CIB Tour final title in a row for Jana, and a confidence booster as she heads to Birmingham as top seed for the British Junior Open G19 event.

Fifth seeded Marwan Tarek, himself a former BJO – and World – B19 Champion, claimed a first senior PSA title as he beat second seed Yahya Elnawasany, second seed for the upcoming BJO, in a five game men’s final.

Order restored in the semis

Jana Shiha finally stopped Mena Walid run with a comfortable 3/0, and will meed Hana Moataz who will play her second final in two events. As for the men, Marwan Tarek confirms his good form and reaches the final, where he’ll face #2 Yahya Elnawasany.

Upsets continue in the quarters

Nice to see Marwan Tarek, World Junior Champion 2017, back in action this week, taking out top seed and highly experienced Ahmed Hosny he never played on PSA. #3 Khaled Labib had to fight hard to oust Andrew Shokry, 11/4 in the 5th.

And if it was comfortable for #2 Yahya Elnawasany against the only non Egyptian survivor Carlos Vargas 3/0, the battle of the unseeded went to the wire as Karim Elbarbary overcame Abdallah Elmasry 12/10 in the 5th…

This tournament is revealing Mena Walid who has now reached the semis after defeating Nour Aboulmakarim. She now meets favourite Jana Shiha, who beat Kenzy Ayman 3/0. On the other side of the draw, Hana Moataz, just back from Pakistan where she reached the final, will face Salma Eltayeb.

Quarters decided… The tournament of upsets!

From the first round things have not gone that well for the favourites, El Boraie losing out to Andrew Shokry 3/0, Karim Elbarbary down 3/0 to Iraqi Hasainain Dakheel, and Carlos Vargas from Mexico beating Youssef Galal.

And it didn’t get better in round 2 for the seeds. If things went well for Ahmed Hosny, Marwan Tarek, Khaled Labib and Yahia Elnawasany, Andrew Shokry took out Ahmed Mohamed, same for Abdallah Elmasry with Hazem Helmy, Karim Elbarbary with Abdelrahman Abdelkhalek, and Mexican Carlos Vargas, the only non Egyptian in the quarters, taking out Omar El Hadidi…

About the same for the girls!
In Round one, Nada Ehab, Nour Ramy, Menna Walie, Noureen Khalifa,Nour Heikal, Nardine Garas and Malak Kamal all upset the seeding! Only one out of 7 seed went through, and that was Haya Ali.

Round 2, went according to plan for Jana Shiha our top seed, Kenzy Ayman, Hana Moataz, Nour Aboulmakarim, and Salma Eltayeb.

But not a good evening for top seed Farah Momen, bowed to Malak Kamal 3/1. The wild card Nour Heikal journey goes on as she ousted #5 Amina El Rihany, and same upset for Sana Ibrahim who couldn’t shake off Mena Walid
