Team Ontario Wins for a Second Consecutive Year at the 2024 Canadian Masters Teams Championship in Winnipeg
Team Ontario was able to bring home a second Canadian Masters Teams Championship win last weekend, January 26th to 28th, at the beautiful Winnipeg Winter Club in Manitoba’s capital city. Team Ontario once again dominated the playing field, with a 6-1 win against Manitoba Team A and a 5-2 win against Team Alberta in the championship pool. The Team was undefeated in their encounters on their journey to the podium.
At this year’s Masters Teams Championship, sponsored by Cardinal Capital Management, KPMG and Squash Manitoba, nine provincial and territorial teams came together to battle it out. On top of Team Ontario’s win, one of the home teams, Team Manitoba A, managed a scrappy second place finish beating Team Alberta 4-3 in the championship pool. Team Manitoba B also managed to win the second consolation pool (7th place), beating out Team Saskatchewan and CAF. In the first consolation pool, Team Nova Scotia took home top spot, beating out Team Quebec and Team British Columbia to bring home 4th place.
“Squash Manitoba was thrilled that we were able to host this year’s Masters Team Championships in Winnipeg,” shared Lynn Colliou, Executive Director of Squash Manitoba. “Manitoba Team A captured Silver, which was a highlight, as it is the highest placing since 2009 when the team placed 3rd. Trevor Borland, the Tournament Chair, worked tirelessly to make the tournament such a success, as well as playing the #1 spot for Manitoba. Randy Fransoo, Tournament Referee, and officials provided great refereeing during the entire tournament.”
“It was a wonderful weekend of squash at the Winnipeg Winter Club with the 2024 Canadian Masters Team Championships taking place,” said Trevor Borland, tournament chair. “There was a constant buzz in the air with large crowds treated to a strong performance by the shorthanded Manitoba Team A who managed to win the silver medal this weekend. Athletes enjoyed the unseasonably warm weather in Winnipeg as well as lots of warmth within the club as the squash community was excited to have this level of play in Winnipeg. We were extremely happy with the way the event ran and are looking forward to hosting again sometime in the future.”
