The 22nd Asian Squash Individual Championships 2023 will be held from 6th to 10th June in Hong Kong
Sanctioned by the Asian Squash Federation, organized by Hong Kong Squash, subvented by the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau, Arts & Sports Development Fund and fully supported by Leisure and Cultural Services Department and Watsons Water, the “22nd Asian Squash Individual Championships 2023” will be held from 6 to 10 June at Hong Kong Squash Centre. The press conference was held at the Novotel Century Hong Kong.
This is the first Asian senior championships to be staged in Hong Kong after its last edition held in 2014.
77 top squash players from 15 Asian countries/regions, including the host Hong Kong China, China, Indonesia, India, Iran, Iraq, Japan, South Korea, Macau China, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Chinese Taipei will gather in Hong Kong to compete for the title of Asian Champion in a single knock-out format.
There will be free admission for the public to enjoy those fantastic matches and support our home players.
The defending champion, world-ranked No.20 Eain Yow Ng and the Hong Kong No.1, 2021 bronze medallist Alex Lau will be the top seeds of the Men’s event, while the other 5 home players, 3/4th seed Henry Leung Chi Hin, 5/8th seed Tang Ming Hong and Wong Chi Him, Matthew Lai Cheuk Nam and Leo Chung Yat Long will also compete in the tournament.
The world No.19 Satomi Watanabe will be the Women’s top seed, while Tomato Ho Tze Lok, who is currently ranked top in Hong Kong and claimed a bronze medal in the last championship, will be the second seed. Besides, Simmi Chan Sin Yuk, 2021 champion Tong Tsz Wing and Lee Ka Yi will join the battlefield as 5/8th seeds along with Sara Cheng Nga Ching and Fung Ching Hei.
The twelve Hong Kong representatives, Head Coach Mr. Genever Peter, Coaches Mr. Faheem Khan and Ms. Rebecca Chiu Wing Yin have joined the conference. The Honorable Duncan Chiu, Chairman of Hong Kong Squash and Mr. David Mui, MH JP, President of Asian Squash Federation also attended the ceremony and gave welcoming speeches respectively to give their support and anticipation for the tournament.
