North Yorkshire squash club marks 50th anniversary with invite!

A North Yorkshire squash club that began as an idea over a pint and went on to welcome world-class players is preparing to celebrate its 50th anniversary this summer, with an open invitation to past and present members.

Bedale Squash Club, on Leyburn Road, was established in 1976 under the chairmanship of Keith Meynell, with its first court opening the following year at what is now the Bedale Sports Club site.

Colin Tipton, a founding member, said: “A few of us played squash at Northallerton or Thorp Perrow and one night in the bar we thought a club in Bedale would save us having to travel all the time.”
