Fram concludes…
Not going to lie to you. Writing this week’s articles was not easy, or simple. It took me a few months to digest all what I saw, felt, and learnt while staying at the Maliks.
I had to choose what to write, what not to write, and how to present this extraordinary family to you. Five sibling PSA players, I’m pretty sure that never happened. Nor that two of them are actually triplets whose third died so young from an incredibly, terribly rare and lethal disease. And incredible parents, significantly different, yet so close, in both despair and love.
And so we are arriving at the last of the Team Malik: Torrie and Curtis.
Torrie.
She wants to appear tough, strong, she hits harder than a lot of male players, she is tall and strong. Yet she is a very feminine young lady, she takes great care of herself.
But does she love herself? Does she think she is good enough? Probably not.
Looking at her, I think I see a bit (a lot) of myself at her age. Hard to get along with ‘strangers’, finding it hard to relate, to connect, to show how fragile we are. Still, trying to learn from our mistakes, but not taking fools gladly.
A beauty, talented, strong and yet graceful and fragile… She is The Iron Swan.
Curtis.
So disciplined. Reliable. Thinking of others. Talented but most of all, dedication at its best. Along with talent, it’s a lethal combination.
He is such a discreet young man, yet on the court, he can be fierce and defend his ground. Fit, strong, like a dog with a bone with that desire to win, but never at all cost. Honour first.
He is one “qui gagne à être connu”, the more you know him, the more you love him. As Malcolm Willstrop would have stated, ‘I have plenty of time for him”.
Last words.
Thanks all of you that took the time to read all those words about Team Malik. But mostly, and foremost, thanks to the Maliks, for opening their home and hearts to that Mad French Woman.
There are moments I truly love my job. This is one of those moments.
Fram, signing off.
