Kandra and Mead triumph in Paderborn

Top seed Raphael Kandra beat Paderborn teammate Viktor Byrtus in straight games to capture the men’s title, while England’s Alicia Mead won the biggest title of her career as she overcame Marta Domingues in five games.

Finalists decided in Paderborn

It will be an all-Paderborn men’s final after top seeds Raphael Kandra and Viktor Byrtus won their semi-finals in straight games, Kandra beating compatriot Yannik Omlor with Byrtus beat Hong Kong’s Tang Ming Hong.

Spain’s Marta Dominguez, the highest-remaining women’s seed after a day of quarter-final upsets, and England’s Alicia Mead will contest the women’s final after both overcame Egyptian opponents. Dominguez eased past Rana Ismail in three, while Mead sneaked through against Haya Ali 12-10 in the fifth!

Quarter-Finals :

It was a good day for the men’s seeds in Paderborn as the top four seeds all won through to the last four. Top seed Raphael Kandra now meets third seed Yannik Omlor in an all-German semi, while Paderborn-based Viktor Byrtus meets Hong Kong’s fourth seed Tang Ming Hong.

It was a different story in the women’s as the top three seeds were all beaten, resulting in two Europe v Egypt semi-finals

Day Two :

The quarter-finalists were decided on Day Two in Paderborn, with men’s top seed Raphael Kandra and third seeds Yannik Omlor and  Saskia Beinhard carrying home hopes into the semi-finals.

Kandra now faces unseeded Spaniard Edmon Lopez, who produced the only upset of the day as he housted Daniel Poleshchuk in straight games. Beinhard meets Egyptian Haya Ali in the women’s quarters, with the top eight seeds still in contention.
