Event roundup

The Palm Hills Arab International Junior Open 2023 have experienced an extraordinary week. This year’s tournament in Egypt proudly took its place as not only the largest in the country but also the world. Distinguished by its diversity, the tournament attracted players from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Jordan, the United States, India, and China, in addition to a significant turnout of players from across Egypt.

Undoubtedly, a standout moment was witnessing the victory of Mohamed Al Nasfan from Saudi Arabia in the boys under 15 event. This marks the first time a non-Egyptian player has claimed a championship title. We also saw dominance from the British open champion Marwan Asal by winning boys under 17 event without dropping a single game. The competition also featured an outstanding Indian rising star Diya who finished as a Finalist in the girls under 17 event, along with a Kuwaiti talent who made it to the semi-finals. These accomplishments bring an exciting new dynamic to the tournament, posing fresh challenges to the Egyptian stars.

Allow me to express my profound gratitude to the invaluable sponsors who contributed to the success of this junior event: Palm Hills Development, National Bank of Egypt, Sheikh Ziad Al-Turki & ATCO Group, Egyptair, and Etisalat. Their unwavering support plays a vital role in promoting squash, and we are honored to have partnered with the Arab Squash Federation once again. I would like to extend my thanks to Mr. Waleed K. Al Sumauei for this opportunity, and we eagerly anticipate more memorable events in the future.

I would also like to acknowledge the Egyptian Federation & Coach Amir Wagih for their unwavering support throughout the tournament. Additionally, a special mention goes to the Palm Hills Club, The Club, and Egyptian Shooting Club Board, who served as exceptional hosts for the event.

I must emphasize the diligent efforts of our Mo Sports Team, comprising Captain Sameer El Khateeb, Mahmoud Sadany, and Ahmed Rashwan. Their hard work ensured the success and enjoyment of all players and their parents. We are also indebted to the legendary coach Abbas Kaoud and world-renowned referee Nasser Zahran, as well as all the referees who made this tournament possible. Over a span of seven days, we witnessed more than 1600 matches across 20 courts—a truly remarkable feat.

Lastly, I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to all the winners and express my enthusiasm for our upcoming events. I am very confident that this tournament will be even bigger next year. Our goal is attract more international stars and we have already seen this happen over the past few events. Stay tuned for an exclusive surprise on Squashsite, which promises to be truly special.
