South East Asia : 10 in a row for HK

The 15th East Asian Squash Championships, held in Haining of Zhejiang Province, concluded on Sunday March 10th with Team Hong Kong, China claiming the title for the 10th consecutive time since 2019.

The East Asian Squash Championships is a Mixed Team event, and the team, unbeaten in the past nine events, continued to succeed by Tang Ming Hong and Wong Chi Him, together with Lai Cheuk Nam Matthew, Ho Ka Hei, Cheng Nga Ching Sara, Fung Ching Hei Heylie and Tse Yee Lam Toby to play at Zhejiang, where they competed against China, Chinese Taipei, Japan, Macao, Korea and Mongolia in a single round robin tournament to determine the champion.

Top seeds Team Hong Kong, China advanced to face the second seed, Team Korea in the Final. Lai Cheuk Nam Matthew beat Seungyong Yoo in straight three (11-7, 11-7, 11-6) to lead. In the second match, Fung Ching Hei Heylie took the opening two games by 11-5, however, her opponent, Hwayeong Eum was not to be denied and leveled the match with 11-4 and 11-1 to take the match to the crucial 5th game.

Heylie was able to get back into the match and won the deciding game by 11-5 to bring the total score to 2-0. With a comfortable win by Tang Ming Hong to defeat Minwoo Lee by 11-8, 11-6 and 11-5, Team Hong Kong, China once again crowned in the East Asian Squash Championships and obtained the 10th consecutive victory.
