The Moxhams: A New "Dynastie"?

This should be developed soon as I feel that what Shaun Moxham, along with his wife Katline Cauwels, is achieving, is quite surreal.

Just in case you don’t know the name, Shaun coached two-time World Champion David Palmer from #44 in the world to #1 in just 18 months. Around 30 years of international playing and coaching experience and love for squash, I came to know Shaun before he got married, when he was travelling with David.

My most vivid memory of him, British Open 2008, a CLASSIC of ALL CLASSICS, nobody had any nails left by the tie-break in the 5th. David won after numerous calls, some controversial – we can’t ask Malcolm Willstrop to comment anymore, but believe me, HE DID, God I miss him so much – on a 11-9, 11-9, 8-11, 6-11, 13-11 (111m) (thanks SquashInfo) score.

When I went to Shaun to ask for a little comment, “never in doubt” came out of a very relieved Australian. I never forgot that.

I also remember him telling me when David retired that he couldn’t see how he could keep going coaching after when he lived/achieved alongside The Marine.

Love took care of that.

IN COMES KATLINE

Katline began her squash journey at the age of 6 in Belgium, quickly rising to prominence as the Belgian National Junior Champion across all age categories and later as the National Ladies Champion.

At 18, she embarked on her PSA career, achieving a world ranking of 41 while simultaneously earning two Master’s Degrees from the University of Antwerp and Antwerp Management School.

They met, fell in love, truly madly deeply, and in 2014, Katline and her now husband Shaun relocated to the United States, where they established the two MSQUASH Academies.

Katline was recognized as the US Squash winner for the 2024 USOPC Coach of the Year Award a few months ago.

And if you think that’s not enough, I give you their two kids, who just made History in Belgium this weekend. Shaun commented on FB:

“Congratulations Maddox & Savannah! You wrote history today as it was the first time ever a pair of siblings won the Belgian National Senior Title in the same year! At 15 and 17 years old you showed tremendous grit, discipline, determination and so much enthusiasm to play in your home 🇧🇪 country!”

Shaun, you didn’t think you could achieve more than what you had with David? I’ve got news for you….
