The second edition of the Manchester Open sees the Men join the Women in the latest Fantasy tournament.

Finals : Fantasy hat -tricks for Raneem and Ali

Two close finals in the Fantasy Manchester Open saw Raneem El Weliliy and Ali Farag collect third Fantasy titles as they overcame Nour El Sherbini and Joel Makin.

Raneem’s win was via a 32% vote for 3-1 with Nour falling just short with a 29% poll for 3-2. It was a similar story in the men’s final with Ali’s 38% 3-1 poll just pipping Joe’s 35% 3-2 vote.

Semis : Makin downs top seed as Sherbini sets up repeat Fantasy Final

In one of the biggest upsets of the Fantasy series, Welshman Joel Makin downed top seed Mohamed ElShorbagy to reach his first Fantasy Final. His opponent will be Ali Farag, who beat compatriot Karim Abdel Gawad to continue his unbeaten Fantasy record to reach a third final in a row,

It’s a this final for Raneem El Welily, who also remains unbeaten as she beat Nour El Tayeb, and she faces a repeat of the El Gouna Fantasy final against Nour El Sherbini, who ousted second seed Nouran Gohar to set up an all=Egyptian finale.

Round TWO : Good day for the seeds

A second day of no upsets in the women’s draw as the top eight seeds completed the quarter-final lineup,

It was a similar story in the men’s as the top seven seeds are joined in the last eight by 9th seed James Willstrop, who edged through against 8th seed Mazen Hesham.

 

Round ONE : Trio of men’s upsets in opening round

While there were no seeding upsets in women’s round one – Tinne Gilis with a 26% 3-1 over Donna Lobban being the closest result – a trio of upsets in the men’s draw saw Greg Lobban, Abdulla Al Tamimi and Youssef Soliman advance to Round Two where the top 16 seeds enter both draws.

The biggest single vote saw Omar Mosaad to a 3-0 win over wildcard Sam Todd with a 71% swing.
