ES have been monitoring the competition landscape over several months as well as liaising with the PSA regarding potential dates to relaunch PSL at a time when it is safe to do so for players, officials & spectators.
The unprecedented circumstances of the ongoing pandemic have allowed an invaluable opportunity to review the overall structure & promotion of PSL to better align it with the wider objectives of England Squash & its recently unveiled strategy.
The overall objective of the PSL Cup is to provide a safe & deliverable format which provides significant exposure & promotion of the sport whilst providing opportunities for English/British players & demonstrating equal opportunities for men & women.
The ‘PSL Cup’ will start in March and will be delivered by England Squash with the support of Squash Media & Marketing (SMM), the new commercial arm of the PSA.
A maximum of 8 teams will be eligible to compete in the inaugural PSL Cup, Teams will be accepted on a first-come-first served basis.
Subject to the number of teams, home & away matches will be held on consecutive days between Tuesday 22nd March & Friday 25th of March
The Semi-Finals & Final will be staged on a full glass court (venue TBC) on the 23rd & 24th April in between the Manchester Open & European Team Championships, & will be streamed on SQUASHTV
Each team will comprise 2 men & 2 women with a minimum of 1 English man & 1 English woman – teams from Wales &/or Scotland (if applicable) will comprise a minimum 1 man & 1 woman from their respective countries
All matches will be played on one court – the format will be 11-PAR scoring, best of 5 games
The PSL Cup will act as a pilot for the 2022/23 season when it is hoped it will be able to return to a more comprehensive ‘season-long’ format .
