PSL Cup Round Five

Pontefract stay top as Crawley leap to second

The final round of the 2022 PSL Cup league season saw four teams aiming to clinch just two places in June’s Cup final – Crawley hosted Nottingham and Pontefract visited Alba Storm with just 8 points separating the teams with a maximum of 14 on offer in each match.

In third and fourth place Crawley, new to the league this season, started on 27 points with visitors Nottingham just 3 ahead on 30, with only the winning side having a reasonable chance of making the final. In the event Crawley proved too strong for a weakened Nottingham side, romping to a 4-0 win without dropping a game, taking them to 41 points with Nottingham out of contention.

The top two met at Newlands LTC in Glasgow with hosts Alba Storm starting on 31 points and visitors Pontefract on 35, so the home side almost certainly needed a win to finish in the top two while Pontefract could still scrape through with a narrow loss. Pontefract weren’t in the mood to leave it to chance though, as they too cruised to a 4-0 win without dropping a game, finishing top of the table with 49 points.

Pontefract will meet Crawley in the final on 12th June, venue tbc.
