Day SIX : Finals

Finals day at the KL REDtone jun ior open saw many 3-0 finals which was surprising.

Na Joo Young got the better  of his Korean team mate Kim Kun in three games in the boys under 19s age group.

In the girls under 19s Goh Zhi Xuan continued her fine form to upset Whitney Isabelle Wilson in four games.

In the under 17s, Ryu Jeonguk came from behind in every game to beat Kreethi Pillay 3-0. In the all  Hong Kong China affair Helen Tang beat top seed Cheung Tsz Ching in three games as well.

In the under 15s, Harleein Tan won the girls event in three games against Dakyshayani Thangaraja and in the boys under 15s Ali Abdullah won the event from an unseeded position beat Ravi Kumar Khailash in the final in four tight games.

Niea Chew and Yuen Tsz Long won the under 13 finals, with Hisshan Nair Tan completing the family double winning the boys under 11s. Hong Kong Chinas Yang Si Han won the under 11 Girls event.

In the under 9s finals Balamurugan Kavilaari won the girls event and Leung Ngo San won the boys event.

DRAWS  DAILY SCHEDULE & RESULTS

Day FIVE : Semi-Finals

Semi finals day of the KL REDtone Junior Open saw some great matches throughout all the age groups.

In the boys under 19s age group it will be an all Korean final after Kim Kun beat Hashvind Kugan in four games and Na Joo Young won in three against Zac Tay.

In the girls under 19s final it will be an all Malaysia Final after Whitney Isabelle Wilson beat Raghu Pooja Arthi in four games and Goh Zhi Xuan stunned top seed Akari Midorikawa in three games.

Girls under 17s will be an all Hong Kong affair after Helen Tang who won the under 15 Asian Juniors and top seed Cheung Tsz Ching saw off both of their Singaporean Opponents of Ong Zhe Sim and
Vicky Lai.

Top seeded Korean Ryu Jeonguk just survived against Aqil Mirza and his opponent in the Final will be Kreethi Pillay after he came back from two games down to beat Altamis Suffian.

In the boys under 15s Ali Abdullah continued his fine form by being unseeded and making the final, he will face Ravi Kumar Khailash after he beat top seed Raziq Putra.

Top seed Harleein Tan will play second seed Thangaraja Dakshayani in the girls under 15s final. In the girls under 13s final Niea Chew will face Yoga Subramanian in the final. In the boys under 13s final it will be between Yuen Tsz Long and Wong Ho Kiu from Hong Kong.

Day FOUR : More seeds tumble

Day four of the KL REDtone Junior Open – Quarter-finals Day – saw more seeds tumbling as the shocks continue in KL.

In the girls under 19s there was one upset when Chen Yu Jie was knocked out by Raghu Pooja Arthi in four games. Top seed Akari Midorikawa needed four games to see off Doyce Lee.

In the boys under 19s, Hashvind Kugan continued his fine form to make the semi finals beating Tam Tsz Shing 11.9 in the fifth to set up a match with Kim Kun from Korea. In the lower half of the draw Na Joo Young will play Tay Jun Qian.

In the girls under 17s the top four seeds made it through to the semi finals but three of the four got severely tested in the quarter finals. Vicky Lai was again pushed the distance before beating Muthukumar Thivyashini. Helen Tang and Ong Zhe Sim needed four games each to see off Haneesha Veerakumar and Putri Rania. Top seed Cheung Tsz Ching saw off Najwa Zara in three games.

In the boys under 17s quarter finals there were four great matches. In the bottom half of the draw Altamis Suffian and Kreethi Pillay came through against Ivan Cheng and Alnasfan Mohammed in five tough games. In the top half of the draw Ryu Jeonguk won an all Korean battle against Lee Jonghyeok in four games and Aqil Mirza beat Wong Lee Hong in four games as well.

In the girls under 15s Harleein Tan will take on Jinoreeka Ning after they both won their matches 3.0. The other semi final will be between Lo Pui Yin and Thangaraja Dakshayani.

In the boys under 15s unseeded Ali Abdullah continued his fine form to set up a show down with Muhammad Haiqal Hazim after he beat second seed Simarver Singh in four games.

Day THREE :

Day Three of the KL REDtone Junior open saw a huge upset in the boys under 19s as the top seed Oh Seojin was beaten in three games by Hashvind Kugan. There was a second upset for the home state as Prakash Predeep Dev beat Japanese 5/8 seed Ito Kanto in four games.

In the girls under 19s Top seed Akari Midorikawa and second seed Whitney Isabelle Wilson remain on a collision course for the final after winning their last 16 matches.

In the Girls under 17s the top 8 seeds all made it through to the quarter finals although second seed Vicky Lai was taken to a tie break in the fifth by Chung Yee Ling from Hong Kong.

There are a few upsets in the boys under 15s with Lau Pakto coming through to the quarter finals as well as unseeded Ali Abdullah from Kuwait.

In the boys under 13s top seed Lokkhesh Wigneswaran was stunned by 9/16 seed Wong Ho Kiu from Hong Kong in five tight games.

Tomorrow is the quarter finals day and it should be a cracker.

Day TWO :

Day Two of the REDtone KL Junior open saw every age group in action, with all the top seeds joining the match play list.

A big upset in the boys under 17s when Wong Long Hin beat 5/8 Seed Erwin Cross in five games coming back from 2-1 down to win the fifth 11-9. Another 9/16 seed Satchin Selvanayagam was removed by South Korea’s Park Mingi also in five games.

In the boys under 13s Julius Tan beat 5/8 seed Ayaan Dhanuka in five tight games sneaking the 5th 12-10 in a match that went all the way. Muhammad Mamoon Khan from Pakistan has continued his quest for the boys under 13s title by being the only unseeded player to make the last 16.

Tomorrow will see every age group down to the round of last 16.

Day ONE

Day one of the REDtone KL Junior Open got underway today with 11 of the 12 age groups commencing. Matches began sharp at 8.30am and continued throughout the whole day into the Evening.

Some of the larger age groups those that had 128 draws had two matches and yet in the age groups played today there were only a handful of seeds that were beaten.

There was really only one big upset on day one as Ng Di Wey Ian knocked out Boys U15 5/8 seed Ravi Kumar Yaalvennthan in five games,

In the Boys under 17s top seed Ryu Jeonguk was taken to four tight games by Chan Yoyo from Chinese Taipei. Jeonguk won the opening game 11-5 and the second 12-10 before losing the third 13-15. He managed to sneak the fourth 11-8 to progress to the next round.

Preview

The 15th KL REDtone event is back with 901 players from 21 countries which makes it the bigger than last year.

With the closure of Bukit Jalil for renovation there will be two additional venues to handle the event.

Draws & Results

Oh Seojin will try to win the Boys under 19s event but will face a tough task top defeat team mate Na Joo Young who represented Korea at the Asian Games.

In the girls under 19s event Akari Midorikawa who won the Asian Juniors under 17s last year and also represented Japan at the Asian Games will try to win the girls under 19s, she could face a final with last years runner up Whitney Isabelle Wilson.

In the Girls under 17s it looks to be a shoot out between two Hong Kong players and Two Singapore players. Tsz Ching Cheng who won the Malaysian Junior open this year will face competition from team mate and Asian Junior under 15 champion Helen Tang. Ong Zhe Sim and Vicky Lai will try to take the title home for Singapore.
