Asian Junior Teams 2025 : Korea and HK take the titles

Day FIVE : Korea take the Boys title, HK win the Girls’

Sole title-sponsored by South China Group, organized by the Squash Association of Hong Kong, China, sanctioned by the Asian Squash Federation, subvented by the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau, Arts & Sports Development Fund and fully supported by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and Watsons Water, the “2025 South China Group 22nd Asian Junior Squash Team Championships” concluded today at Hong Kong Squash Centre.

The 2023 Boy’s Team Bronze medalists were matched up in the finals today, featuring the top seed, Team Republic of Korea, who made their historic first-ever appearance the in Asian Junior Team Championship’s Boy’s Final, and the 2nd seed, Team Malaysia. In the first match, the Korean Jooyoung Na took the first game by 11-6, but Harith Danial Jefri from Malaysia turned the table in the next two games by 11-8 and 11-9. Jooyoung Na immediately adjusted himself from the fourth game, successfully winning the next two games 11-7 and 11-2, leading the team to win the first rubber.

Yoo Jeong-uk from the Republic of Korea and Malaysian Nickhileswar Moganasundharam are also locked in a tough battle again. Yoo Jeong-uk ultimately won after a five-game match lasting 68 minutes (6-11, 13-11, 5-11, 11-9, 11-7) and led the team to claim their first-ever Boy’s Gold Medal in the Asian Junior Team Championships.

The top seed Team Hong Kong, China faced the 2nd seed Team Malaysia in the Girl’s Final. Our home player Kwong Ena eliminated Malaysian Anrie Goh in straight sets (11-3, 11-7, 11-6). In the following match, Cheung Tsz Ching lost the opening game to Harleein Tan 3-11 but quickly turned the table by winning three games11-7, 11-8, and 11-5. Team Hong Kong, China once again claimed the Girl’s Gold Medal since the 2011 Asian Junior Team Championships in Sri Lanka. In addition, Team India and Team Singapore were awarded Bronze Medals.

The Hong Kong, China, Boys’ team finished sixth in the championship after losing 0-2 to Team Japan.

The Prize Presentation Ceremony was followed after the Girl’s Final was held with distinguished guests including the Honorable Duncan Chiu, President of Asian Squash Federation & Chairman of Squash Association of Hong Kong, China, Mr. David Mui, MH JP, Vice President of World Squash Federation & Emeritus President of Asian Squash Federation, Ms. Winnie Chui Hui Lo, JP, Deputy Director of Leisure & Cultural Services Department (Leisure Services), Mr. Paul Ng, Executive Vice Chairman & CEO of South China Group, and also the Vice Presidents of Asian Squash Federation, including Mr. Cyrus Poncha, Mr. Koo Ryun Hoe and Mr. Adel Alghareeb.

Day FOUR : Malaysia through to both finals in HK

The Semifinals of “2025 South China Group 22nd Asian Junior Squash Team Championships” were staged today at the Hong Kong Squash Centre.

The Boy’s top seed Team Republic of Korea advanced to the finals by defeating the 6th Team Pakistan in straight sets. They will compete for the gold medal against the 2nd seed, Team Malaysia. And the Girl’s top seed, Team Hong Kong, China, will play against the 2nd seed Team Malaysia in tomorrow’s final.

Team Republic of Korea continued their strong performance today, with players Seojin Oh and Jooyoung Na both winning their opponents from the 6th seed, Pakistani Sakhi Ullah Khan Tareen and Anas Ali Shah 3-0 respectively, leading the team to advance. The 2nd seed Team Malaysia faced 4th seed Team India in another Boy’s Semifinal. Malaysian Altamis A. Sufian lost the first match 1-3 to India’s Yusha Nafees, but then his compatriot, Harith Danial Jefri tied the match by winning Indian Arihant Kalamangalam Sunil 3-0. In the final match, Nickhileswar Moganasundharam from Malaysia defeated India’s Sandhesh Palanivel Ravikumar by 3-1 after a tough 57-minute battle.

In the Girl’s Semifinals, the top-seeded Team Hong Kong, China faced a tough battle against the 3rd seed Team India. Cheung Tsz Ching took the opening match by eliminating India’s Anika Dubey 3-0. However, her teammate Leung Ka Huen lost 0-3 to India’s Anahat Singh, who is currently ranked 86th in the world and was a bronze medalist in the Women’s Team and Mixed Doubles at the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games. Our home player Kwong Ena performed excellently in the crucial third match, which started with an 11-0 lead in the first set. She ultimately won Akanksha Gupta from India in straight sets and led Team Hong Kong, China to march into the Final. While the 2nd seed, Team Malaysia also suppressed the 5th seed Team Singapore 2-0 to continue their journey.

The two finals will be held on Sunday at the Hong Kong Squash Centre, with the Boy’s Final starting at 12:30pm, followed by the Girl’s Final at 3pm. Fans can attend in person or watch the live broadcast via our Facebook page, YouTube, or RTHK TV 32.

 

Day THREE : Down to the semi-finals in HK

The third day of the 2025 South China Group 22nd Asian Junior Squash Team Championships has concluded.

In the Boys’ Quarterfinals, the top-seeded Team Republic of Korea triumphed over the 9th seed Team Singapore in straight sets, advancing to the Semifinals. The 5th seed Team Japan faced a tough challenge from the 6th seed Team Pakistan. Anas Ali Shah from Pakistan defeated Japan’s Renshi Makino 3-1 in 53 minutes in the first match. However, Team Japan equalized the match at 1-1 when Shu Takahashi overcame Sakhi Ullah Khan Tareen 3-2 in 57 minutes. Ultimately, Abdullah Nawaz from Pakistan secured victory in the crucial third match, defeating Japan’s Shunsaku Kariyazono in straight sets and leading his team to the Semifinals.

The 2nd seed Team Malaysia also advanced by defeating the 7th seed Team Kuwait 2-0. The final Boys’ Quarterfinal featured the 3rd seed Team Hong Kong, China, against the 4th seed Team India. Indian player Arihant Kalamangalam Sunil won the first match against host player Cheng Justin Hong-chen 3-0. In the second match, Wong Wing Kuen from Hong Kong, China won the first game 11-8 but was later defeated by Yusha Nafees, allowing Team India to advance with a 2-0 victory.

The Girls’ pool matches were also completed this afternoon. The 5th seed Team Singapore upset the 4th seed Team Republic of Korea 3-0, securing their spot in the semifinals with three wins and one loss, finishing second in Pool A.

On the other side, there was a crucial match between the 2nd seed Team Malaysia and 3rd seed Team India, to decide which team would be the winner of Pool B. Indian player Anahat Singh started strong and defeated Malaysia’s Anrie Goh in straight sets in just 22 minutes. Haneesha Veerakumar from Malaysia then tied the next match by beating Anika Dubey from India by 3-1. In the end, Malaysian Harleein Tan eliminated Indian Akanksha Gupta 3-0 in the decisive third match helping Team Malaysia to secure their top position in the pool.

Day Two :

The top eight Boy’s teams have been confirmed, while the Girls’ teams will compete in their final pool matches tomorrow afternoon

The day two matches of the 2025 South China Group 22nd Asian Junior Squash Team Championships” were completed )at Hong Kong Squash Centre.

In Men’s Pool A, the top seed Team Republic of Korea secured their top in the pool yesterday with two wins, while the 7th seed Team Kuwait also advanced to the top 8 after defeating the 10th seed Team Sri Lanka by 3-0. The 2nd seed Team Malaysia beat the 15th seed Team Mongolia 3-0, finishing their pool matches as the winner of Pool B with three wins and 9 points. The 9th seed Team Singapore caused an upset by defeating the 8th seed Team Qatar in straight sets and will face the top seed in the quarterfinals tomorrow.

The 3rd seed Team Hong Kong, China played their final pool match today against the 13th seed Team Chinese Taipei. Wong Wing Kuen, Cheng Justin Hong-chen, and Mak Tsun Hei all secured comfortable 3-0 victories, leading the team to finish as the winners of Pool C with 8 points.

Meanwhile, the 5th seed Team Japan also claimed their place in the quarterfinals with a total of 7 points after defeating the eleventh-seeded Team Thailand. In Pool D, the 6th seed Team Pakistan triumphed over the twelfth-seeded Team Macau, China, 3-0, finishing first with 8 points, while the fourth-seeded Team India advanced to second place in the pool with 7 points.

In the Girl’s event, the top-seeded Team Hong Kong, China, competed in their final two matches today. In the morning, Cheung Tsz Ching, Kwong Ena, and Tang Helen dominated their opponents from the 5th seed Team Singapore. In the evening, the team altered their lineup to include Kwong Ena, Leung Ka Huen, and Tang Helen to face the 4th seed Team Republic of Korea. They ultimately achieved full victories in all pool matches, securing their place in the quarterfinals as the winners of Pool A. Meanwhile, the second-seeded Team Malaysia remains undefeated with 12 points, leading in Pool B, while the 3rd seed Team India is currently in second place with 11 points.

The Boy’s Quarter-finals will take place tomorrow at the squash centre, with our home team competing against Team India at 12:30 PM to fight for a spot in the Semifinals. Besides, other Girl’s pool matches will be held tomorrow afternoon.
