How to present Rob….
That is his 19th squash book. Almost all of them are arrayed on his site.
Reflections On A Lifetime In Squash is a collection of 33 vignettes — squash-related “slices of life” — that our Rob either witnessed or experienced first-hand during more than five decades of actively playing and writing about the game.
Dinerman’s prose covers hardball, softball, doubles and college squash, and in many of the chapters, his recounting of compelling personal stories takes the reader “under the hood” to a degree that goes far beyond the empirical results.
Whether it was Viktor Berg literally running through an airport (as popularized by a Hertz commercial multiple decades ago), or Betty Constable bringing the steely will for which she was well-renowned to instantly resolve a developing controversy, or Mark Talbott and Raneem El Weleily making the kind of early-career breakthroughs that became the first definitive sign of the superstardom that awaited them, or tragic figures like Tommy Page and Alex Doucas flying too close to the sun, or the transformation of Paul Assaiante from something of a squash nomad into the winningest college coach of all time in ANY sport and arguably the greatest college squash coach in history, or the touching generosity of spirit evinced by Bob Lehman and M.E. Acuff that had such an enduring positive influence on everyone in their orbit — these are just a piquant sampling of the memories, moments and messages that are sprinkled throughout this document, in which the chapters’ protagonists range in age from 10 years old to mid-90’s.
There is something for everyone in this publication…
