Semis
Top seed Nicolas Mueller and No.6 seed Sam Todd advanced to the final of the White Oaks Cup 2025 after the pair claimed respective victories over Tom Walsh and Finnlay Withington at Niagara-on-the-Lake in Canada.
After coming through a five-game quarter-final clash with Melvil Scianimanico, Switzerland’s Mueller was once again taken right down to the wire, this time by No.8 seed Walsh.
World No.34 Mueller found himself down by two games against his English opponent following a pair of 11-8 defeats, however, the 36-year-old drew upon his vast experience to firstly draw the match level and eventually move through to an 8-11, 8-11, 11-7, 11-8, 11-4 win after 61 minutes of play.
In the second semi-final, England’s No.6 seed Todd ended the run of the unseeded Finnlay Withington in four games.
The World No.46, on the hunt for his ninth PSA Tour title this week, proved too strong for Withington in the latter stages of the match, eventually moving through to claim an 11-9, 7-11, 11-7, 11-5 victory.
Round Two
Unseeded duo Mohamed Sharaf and Finnlay Withington claimed a pair of upset wins on day two of the Copper-level White Oaks Cup 2025, defeating No.3 seed Nick Wall and No.5 seed Rory Stewart, respectively, at Niagara-on-the-Lake in Canada.
World No.74 Sharaf, a runner-up at the Costa Rica Open earlier this month, continued his fine recent form after overcoming World No.44 Wall by an 11-5, 11-5, 7-11, 11-8 scoreline. The Egyptian will now play No.8 seed Tom Walsh for a spot in the semi-finals, after the Englishman battled past Marwan Tamer in a hard-fought three-game win.
Meanwhile, England’s Withington, runner-up at the 2022 World Junior Championships, reached his first World Events quarter-final on the PSA Squash Tour following an 11-7, 11-5, 11-4 win over Scotland’s Stewart. The 21-year-old faces compatriot and No.2 seed Nathan Lake in the next round after Lake took down Mexico’s Cesar Salazar in three games.
Elsewhere, No.4 seed Simon Herbert came through a tough five-game duel to advance to the semi-finals. The English World No.61 looked in big trouble at two games down against his Egyptian opponent, but rallied impressively to clinch a crucial third game from 7-7, before wrapping up 11-8 and 11-6 wins in the final two games.
The other winners on day two of action at White Oaks Resort & Spa were Switzerland’s top seed Nicolas Mueller, England’s No.6 seed Sam Todd and France’s No.7 seed Melvil Scianimanico, who got the better of Sebastian Salazar, Salman Khalil and Joseph White, respectively.
Round One
The Copper-level White Oaks Cup 2025 got underway yesterday, with eight players successfully booking their spots in the second round at White Oaks Resort & Spa.
World No.231 Marwan Tamer scored the win of the round, as the 19-year-old defeated fellow Egyptian Abdelrahman Nassar in four games to claim his first World Events victory on the PSA Squash Tour. Despite the teenager seeing a match ball slip out of his grasp at the end of a tight third game, which he eventually lost 12-10, Tamer kept his composure impressively to move through to an 11-8, 11-7, 10-12, 11-7 win.
There were no home winners on the opening day of the event, with Mexico’s Cesar and Sebastian Salazar both getting the better of their Canadian opponents, Liam Marrison and Nick Sachvie, in straight games.
Egypt’s Salman Khalil also defeated Canada’s Elliot Hunt by an 11-6, 11-5, 11-3 scoreline to set up a second-round meeting with English No.6 seed Sam Todd.
Elsewhere, England’s Finnley Withington held off the challenge of USA’s Nicholas Spizziri in four games, while Omar Said, Joseph White and Mohamed Sharaf overcame Mohamed Nawar, Salim Khan and Alfredo Avila Vergara in three games, respectively.
