What is your strongest point, personally and squashwise?
Personally, my strongest point is that I can always see the positives in even challenging situations and strive to come through and not let anything bring me down. This also translates to my Squash, so I’d say Squashwise it’s also my strongest.
What is your weakest point, personally and squashwise?
Personally, I can be quite hard on myself at times, because I always want to reach high standards. But I’ve been learning to turn that pressure into motivation rather than frustration. I’ve also been focusing on improving my shot selection so I can balance a better all-around Squash player.
Early bird or now owl?
Mix of both, I like starting the mornings fresh and ready to get a good day of traning in. I also like the evenings, as it allows me to relax and enjoy down time with my family.
What do you find the most difficult in training? And in competition?
I don’t really find training difficult as such, I actually enjoy it and look forward to the work every day. What can be challenging is the competition side, more from a financial perspective than the sport itself, since travelling to events isn’t always easy. But I see it as part of the journey, and it makes me appreciate every opportunity I get to compete.
How pivotal/crucial/heartbreaking/strength-giver the departure of your little brother in your life?
Losing Sumner was very difficult for me, and of course, as a family, seeing him fall ill and lose a lot of his basic functions was very hard to see.
However, I will always remember how determined he was to still move around and train to the best of his ability. That’s something I will remember forever.
What do you hate?
The thing I hate most is not performing to the best of my ability. While it’s hard to do every time, I still do my best to be able to play as well as I can.
A remote island: who do you go with?
I would love to go to a remote Island with my family, I think we’d all deserve a good getaway together. We are very close and would have a very enjoyable time.
Anything you feel people would maybe need to know about you/about your family?
We are a family of 8, sadly lost our youngest member of the family, Sumner, to a brain tumour in 2018.
All 5 of compete on the PSA Squash Tour, we train together everyday and strive to reach our goals alongside one another.
