Men’s $6k PSA Challenger, 29 Jul – 02 Aug, Bialystok, Poland
Mohamed Gohar added another trophy to the Gohar family collection with his maiden PSA Tour title, winning the PSA Sekwoja Open 6K 2025 in Poland.
The 22-year-old is the younger brother of women’s World No.1 Nouran Gohar, but had never tasted glory in a Challenger event before last week, with a runner-up finish at the Giza Region Challenger 1 last October his previous best result.
He kicked off his quest for glory with a 3-0 win over Yukhym Bielikov and secured another straight-games success in the semi-finals, but his quarter-final win over fellow Egyptian Marwan Tamer in between was a far tougher test.
In fact, only the first game – which Gohar lost 11-7 – was split by more than two points, as the No.3 seed saved a game ball at 10-9 down in the second, taking it 13-11, before losing the third on another tiebreak, 12-10.
With tension high between two evenly-matched players, games four and five proceeded to follow almost identical patterns, as the players went toe-to-toe all the way to 9-9 in both, but it was Gohar who ultimately held his nerve, winning both games 11-9 to reach the final four.
A 48-minute success over Shady El Sherbiny then set up a final showdown with experienced No.1 seed Mazen Gamal, who is 17 years Gohar’s senior and has played more than 300 matches more than his opponent.
But playing on the spectacular all-glass show court in the Polish city of Bialystok, Gohar put in an impressive performance, getting better as the match wore on to secure a 3-1 victory in just shy of an hour.
