DOUBLE DELIGHT FOR ENGLAND AT ETC2025
England won the men’s and women’s titles in stunning style at the 2025 European Team Championships in Wroclaw, Poland.
The men’s team took the European title for the fifth year in a row, and 45th overall, once again consigning France to the runners-up position with a 3-1 victory. For the third year in succession, Switzerland won bronze, courtesy of a 4-0 win against Germany.
England’s women reclaimed the title from last year’s champions Belgium thanks to a 2-1 victory sealed by a superb performance by Jasmine Hutton against world no.13 Nele Gilis-Coll. France were bronze medallists after defeating Scotland 2-0.
In Division 2, there was a Dutch double as their men’s and women’s teams beat Poland and Ukraine respectively, with all four promoted to Division 1 (for the first time ever in Poland’s case).
Ireland and Israel were the teams relegated from men’s Division 1, with Italy and Romania finishing bottom of men’s Division 2, thus returning to the third tier for 2026. Finland and Demark went down from women’s Division 1, while Slovenia and Norway made the drop from Division 2 to the bottom rung for next year.

Saturday’s finals at the 2025 European Team Squash Championships will be repeat of last year’s in Uster as England’s men face France and defending women’s champions Belgium meet England.
The women’s final will be a Belgium-England duel for the third year in succession after sisters Tinne Gilis and Nele Gilis-Coll were both victorious in straight games in their semi-final against Scotland.
England reached the women’s final for the 45th year out of 46 in this tournament’s history after contrasting victories for Jasmine Hutton and Georgina Kennedy in their semi-final against France.
The England-France men’s final will be the 22nd time that these two old foes have met in Europe’s elite team competition.
England defeated unexpected semi-finalists Germany 3-0 on the Hasta La Vista club glass court in the first semi-final.
France’s men booked their place in the final by beating third seeds Switzerland 3-0 in the second semi.
Day TWO : Pools and quarter-finals completed
The Men’s D1 Pools concluded with the third match in each pool, wins for top seeds England, France and Switzerland to top pools A, B and C, while Germany got the better of a 2-2 draw with Wales to top Pool D.
In women’s D1 third seeds Wale were the biggest casualty as they dropped out of the top eight, finishing below Switzerland and Poland. Meanwhile Germany won their 9th v 8th match against Czechia to reach the last eight.
No upsets in the quarter-finals which all went to seeding.

Day ONE : Men’s seeds win as Poland upset Wales’ women
That’s a wrap for day one at the 2025 European Team Championships, where the four top seeds in men’s Division One all leapt their first hurdles today, while Wales’s defeat to Poland (in which Tesni Murphy didn’t play) was the only surprise in the women’s Division One.
Day Two will see the finishing pool positions and quarter-final lineups decided, they start at 15.00
