World Junior Champion Amina Orfi makes history as she becomes the youngest female player ever to reach the top three in the PSA World Rankings.
After a strong 24/25 season, Orfi has started the new campaign in even better form, winning the London Squash Classic (Gold event), reaching her first Diamond event final and reaching the semi-finals of the Qatar Classic (Platinum event).
The 18-year-old has recorded wins over Hania El Hammamy, Nour El Sherbini and Olivia Weaver in the past 12 months and is fully deserving of her spot in the top three. She’s overtaken both ElSherbini and USA’s Olivia Weaver to reach the position.
Elsewhere in the women’s rankings, Qatar Classic quarter finalist Farida Mohamed has moved to her highest ranking at World #13. The Egyptian reached her first ever major event quarter in Doha, losing out to Tinne Gilis (who has risen back to #6) but has made a considerable jump overtaking compatriots Hany, Abbas and a currently injured Elaraby. France’s Melissa Alves was another surprise quarter finalist at the Qatar Classic and she’s been rewarded with a two place rise to sit at #18.

Coll answers the critics
Qatar Classic men’s champion Paul Coll silenced some critics after his shock Egyptian Open exit by producing one of the best weeks of squash in his career to capture his first Platinum title since December 2023. Although he hasn’t moved ranking, the New Zealander has made a big jump away from World #4 Joel Makin but also a big jump towards World#2 Diego Elias. With the Peruvian set for a spell on the sidelines, could Coll take advantage and return to the #2 position for the first time in over a year?
Despite Coll’s success, the name on everybody’s lips after the opening Platinum event of the season is rising English star Jonah Bryant. The 20-year-old came through one of the early contenders for match of the season against Mohamad Zakaria, winning in five games. He went on to reach his first ever major event semi-final, falling to training partner Coll in three games but a huge step made by the ever-improving Englishman. He’s risen four places to World #16, poised to challenge for a spot in the top 10 later this season.
Semi-finalist Fares Dessouky has been rather stagnant in the rankings over the last few seasons, but is back to his highest ranking since September 2023 this week at World #13. Recent performances may give the talented Egyptian the motivation and confidence to try and challenge for the top 10 once again.
