WSL World Champion Podcasts

There have been 36 winners of the men’s and women’s world championships since the events began in 1976.

Each player has been on a squash journey beginning when they first picked up a racket to later lifting the title. Now, they are telling their story to the World Squash Library in a series of ‘My Journey’ podcasts as a new Library resource for the sport now and into the future.

The first batch released today includes Heather McKay telling of her late start and then complete domination; Thierry Lincou’s journey from an Indian Ocean island to become the first French world champion; Gregory Gaultier explaining his near misses before becoming the second French winner; Nicol David’s path from Penang to eight titles.

Also in the first eight podcasts are the only winning husband and wife, Egyptians Raneem El Welily and Tarek Momen; Australia’s second female winner Rhonda Thorne and English world junior then senior champion Cassie Jackman telling their stories too.

‘More will follow in the coming months as other champions are generously give their time to talk about their start, development, challenges and successes. To hear them from their own lips gives a real insight’, commented Library founder Andrew Shelley.
