Fram reports
Although I’m not as present in Egypt as I was a few years ago, I am still very much in contact with Egyptian Squash World, whether on-site or abroad.
Recently, my attention was brought to a young coach, Nasr Magdy, who I met a few years ago in the Cairo Club, Wadi Degla – led by former World Number One, Karim Darwish – where Nasr was head coach.
The reputation and talents coming out of Wadi Degla are not a well-kept secret: not only great PSA top players come from that club (Ali, Hania and so many more), but their junior program has led to excellent results on the Junior National and International circuits.
So no surprisingly, Nasr was recruited in July 2023 by the Houston Squash Club, and more precisely, by his famous Squash Legend, Jahanzeb Masood Khan.
Come on, you know the name! Originally from Pakistan, Jahanzeb has been at the spearhead of Squash in the US for several years now. Training not only US-based players, but also Pakistani and Egyptian young talents.
Of course, Jahanzeb is not solely responsible for Pakistan’s recent resurgence on the international scene, but he has certainly greatly contributed to it with his team, led by Head Coach Nasr.
“I want to send my appreciation and gratitude to Jahanzeb Khan” states Nasr. “He has been my mentor and my support system. What ever I need, he provides it. But more importantly, he has been pushing me beyond my limits with his endless support and trust.”
Great results!
The work that Nasr has been producing in Houston seems to have resulted in some excellent results.
“We succeeded in sending 6 players for the British Junior Open: 4 representing US team & 2 representing Pakistan.
“We have more than double our junior medal number in only two seasons on the US ground, and we are very proud of our U11 girl Queenie Zhang – USĀ #1 for 6 consecutive months and our U11 boy Azlan Khan, #2, not forgetting Huzaifa Ibrahim, runner up at the US Junior.
“Our teams have also done brilliantly, winning the Interscholastic Championship for the Middle School two years in a row 2024 & 2025, boys,Ā and for the 4th consecutive year for the girls!
Houston Squash Club also welcome Pros, like Ashab Irfan who moved up to WR59, winning 6 Challenger titles 9k,12k & 15k.
AlsoĀ Zeina Zein won the College Squash Association individual nationals without dropping a game 2025, finalist of the Canadian nationals 2025. She won the 12k Manchester Northern Open in December 2024 and the 9k Aftab Jawaid Memorial in June 2025, winning two “Challenger player of the Month” in the process.
Organising a Houston Camp in Cairo!
Nasr, now National Coach for US juniors team, was part of the organisation of a Camp in Cairo for the Houston players and many more.
“Thanks to Jahanzeb vision and guidance, we organised this summer our first international camp in Egypt with the collaboration of Houston Squash Club & TM sports.
“Our camp is considered the largest and longest camp that has ever been held in Egypt, with 30 players from different states and countries, and also the longest, with a 6-week duration.
We had in this camp 7 squash coaches, 4 fitness coaches, 5 hitters, 3 admins, a physiotherapy team & mental coaching team, all in one facility!
