The nation’s top professionals return to the Arlen Specter US Squash Center to compete in the Desai Family U.S. Women’s and S.L. Green U.S. Men’s Squash Championships as world No. 4 Olivia Weaver and world No. 29 Timmy Brownell prepare to defend their national titles from 29th April to 2nd May in Philadelphia.
Thirty-two men and sixteen women will represent the best of the U.S. and vie for the title of U.S. Champion. The draw will take on a new shape due to the unfortunate Achilles rupture to 2014 champion and world No. 18 Sabrina Sobhy last weekend.
Weaver leads the draw as the top seed in search of what could be a third consecutive national title, and will hope to have recovered from a recent hamstring injury that forced her to withdraw from the El Gouna semifinals earlier this month. Weaver is seeded to face world No. 84 Laila Sedky in the semifinals, as the Seattle native slots into the four seed in place of the injured Sobhy.
World No. 11 Amanda Sobhy opposes Weaver in the draw as the two seed as she targets matching Latasha Khan’s national title record with her seventh. Sobhy is seeded for a semifinal rematch against world No. 16 and three-seed Marina Stefanoni, who enters the U.S. Championships as a top twenty player for the first time.
In the men’s draw, Brownell joins Weaver with ambitions of a third consecutive national title. Brownell leads the draw as the top seed and is seeded to face world No. 108 Salim Khan in the semifinals. 2025 finalist and two seed Nick Spizzirri will have his sights set on a maiden national title, having defeated both Brownell and three seed Shahjahan Khan on the PSA tour in recent weeks.
Former U.S. champions Chris Gordon and Olivia Blatchford Clyne enter the tournament with hopes of causing a stir!
