Finals : Rory and Lauren take the ESC titles
Home favourite Rory Stewart and France’s second seed Lauren Baltayan are the 2025 Edinburgh Open champions after wins over Muhd Ashab Irfan and Hannah Craig in today’s finals.
While Balyayan wrapped up her victory over the top seed in straight games, Stewart was taken the distance by the third seeded Pakistan player, ultimately prevailing 12-10 in the fifth.
Semis : Stewart comeback denies Osborne-Wylde as Thomson comeback falls short
Top seed Rory Stewart came from two games down to deny unseeded Englishman Sam Osborne-Wylde another upset, setting up a final against Muhd Ashab Irfan, who edged home in three close games against Mostafa Elsirty.
The top two seeds will contest the women’s final after Ireland’s Hannah Craig thwarted Alison Thomson’s comeback to win in five games, and Lauren Baltayan beat unseeded Laura Tovar in straight games.

Quarters : Rory & Ali still going at ESC
Home favourites Rory Stewart and Alison Thomson kept their title bids alive with hard-fought quarter-final wins at Edinburgh Sports Club.
Top seed Rory beat Germany’s Yannik Omlor in just over an hour, and now meets unseeded young Englishman Sam Osborne-Wylde, who beat fourth see Mazen Gamal in straight games. In the other semi-final second and third seeds Mostafa Elsirty and Muhd Ashab Irfan will play off for a place in the final.
Thomson also took over an hour as she saw off fifth seeded Mexican Sahari Lopez, setting up a semi-final with top seeded Irishwoman Hannah Craig. Second seed Lauren Balttayan survived a second successive five-game battle and now meets unseeded Colombian Laura Tovar for a place in the final.

Day TWO : Stewart and Thomson take home interest into the quarters
Day Two at Edinburgh Sports Club saw the seeded players enter the action, with just two failing to reach the quarter-finals.
In the men’s draw young Englishman Sam Osborne-Wylde took out sixth seed Lwamba Chileshe to set up a quarter-final with fourth seed Mazen Gamal. Top seed Rory Stewart eased through, while second seed Mostafa Elsirty took 76 minutes to get past Ireland’s Sam Buckley.
In the women’s draw Robyn McAlpine lost out to Irish top seed Hannah Craig, while Elizabeth McKenenzie also bowed out, leaving Alison Thomson the last remaining Scot. The only upset came as Spain’s Ona Blasco ousted fourth seeded Elise Romba in a five game thriller. Second seed Lauren Baltayan also needed all five games to deny adopted local Kaitlyn Watts.

The 2025 edition of The Edinburgh Open, this year being run as Men’s $15k and Women’s $6k PSA Challengers, kicked off at Edinburgh Sports Club with sixteen round one matches.

There wasn’t much joy for the home favourites, with all four Scots in the men’s draw losing out, but Robyn McAlpine and Edith McKenzie providing home wins in the women’s draw – wildcard McKenzie winning a see-saw five-setter against USA’s Audrey Berling. Adopted local Kaitlyn Watts also progressed.
