The Edinburgh Open 2026

FINALS : Second seeds Flynn and Carter take the titles in Edinburgh

Finals Day at Edinburgh Sports Club saw second seeds and finals favourites Reanne Flynn and Jared Carter take the Edinburgh Open titles.

Flynn proved too strong for Malaysia’s Yu Jie Chen, who had taken out the top and third seeds on the way to her first PSA final, but looked to be struggling physically at time as Flynn took a close opener then powered through the final two games.

In the men’s final Carter, have seen off home favourite John Meehan in a torrid semi-final, was tested all the way by Jack Mitterer, who edged the opening game but couldn’t quite maintain that quality as Carter took the next three games.

Semis : Top seeds toppled as finalists decided in Edinburgh

The finals of The Edinburgh Open will be played with both top seeds missing after Nadia Pfister and Benjamin Aubert suffered contrasting defeats tonight at Edinburgh Sports Club.

In the opening semi Switzerland’s Pfister started well, taking the opening games against 9/16 seed Yu Jie Chen, but the Malaysian fought back to level, and did so again after Pfister took the third to set up a decider. With a mixture of quick winners and unforced errors, Chen held on to an early lead in the fifth to reach her first PSA final. There she’ll play Irish second seed Breanne Flynn, who beat Wales’ Ellie Breach in four entertaining games,

Frenchman Aubert’s bid to reach the final was cut short when he was forced to retire after losing the first game against Jack Mitterer, hampered by a foot injury he incurred yesterday. The second men’s semi was a marathon affair, with second seed Jared Carter eventually seeing off home club – and vociferous crowd – favourite John Meehan in an 84 minute five game battle.

Quarters : Meehan wins marathon to keep home hopes alive

There’s just one Scot left after a busy Friday at ESC, with men’s third seed John Meehan keeping home hopes alive with a five-game quarter-final win over Swiss Robin Gadola in the longest match of the day by a distance. Third seeded Meehan now faces second Jared Carter, who had a much quieter passage into the last four.

The other men’s semi-final will see top seeded Frenchman Benjamin Aubert face off against unseeded Jack Mitterer, who beat the fourth and seventh seeds to book his semi-final spot.

Although there’s no home representation in the women’s semis, there’s a multinational day in store as top seeded Swiss Nadia Pfister faces Malaysian surprise package Yu Jie Chen, and Irish second seed Breanne Flynn meets sixth seeded Welshwoman Ellie Breach.

Round Two : Meehan and Jones keep home hopes alive

The seeded players entered the action on Friday afternoon as Round Two of the $3k PSA Challengers got under way. The top two seeds in both draws made it safely through to the evening quarter-finals, but there were some casualties along the way.

The biggest upset in the women’s draw saw Malaysia’s Yu Jie Chen down third seeded Elise Romba in staight games, setting up a quarter-final with fellow 9/16 seed Anjali Semwal, who overcame fifth seed Rofiat Abdulazeez in four games. Home interest in the women’s draw lies with seventh seed Ellie Jones, who overcame Belgium’s Chloe Crabbe in five games to set up a match with top seeded Swiss Nadia Pfister.

There’s just one Scot left in the men’s draw too, with third seed John Meehan coming from a game down against Praviin Jeeva to set up a last eight meeting with eighth seeded Swiss Robin Gadola. England’s Jack Mitterer and Malaysia’s Shamiel Haeyzad provided the seedong upsets as they ousted fourth and sixth seeds Jan Wipperfurth and Sohail El Shenawy.
